QVC hour show!

Hello to our QVC fans!

Here at Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare, we have SPRINGTIME on the brain thanks to this gorgeous weather – you too? Tulips… sunshine…. sandals…. and our favorite, of course: brand new spring skincare — all with science behind it!

The heavy-duty formulas served us well this winter (ahem, Polar Vortex) but it’s finally time to swap them for lighter textures. Dr. Gross is dedicating a whole hour QVC show to helping you do just that on Thurs., April 17 at 11 AM EST. He’s going to unveil the best of the 2014 solutions, all clinically proven for brighter, tighter skin. Can’t wait? Us either. So here are a few preview tips from Dr. Gross himself in the meantime…

• Winter left us feeling dry and dehydrated. Did you know that Steamer Solutions deep cleans, hydrates, and promotes better exfoliation? Then seal deep moisture into the fresh skin underneath with Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion.

 • Dr. Gross advises all of us to use a gentle chemical peel every morning to resurface their skin. Alpha Beta Peels blend alpha and beta hydroxy acids to make skin look firmer, brighter, and smoother.

•If you weren’t using SPF this winter, you should definitely be using one now. Many of us complain that sunscreens are too greasy to use daily. “I created CC Cream SPF 18 to give luxurious but lightweight UVA/UVB coverage,” said Dr. Gross. It immediately moisturizes and brightens the skin, and even hides wrinkles and dark circles.

• Spring and summer temps can cause skin to produce more oil, which leads to blackheads and “stretched out“ pores that create an aged look. I formulated my Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask to visibly reduce the appearance of those enlarged pores for clearer, healthier-looking skin.

•Finally, make sure you’re using a product made with retinol – a dermatologist go-to for anti-aging. The QVC exclusive Ferulic + Retinol Discovery kit contains three bestselling products (perfectly sized for travel) to keep your skin looking fresh and gorgeous no matter where the season takes you. See you on QVC April 17th!

get the look: hair model-level locks

My hair is fine, not particularly thick, and looking kind of limp. Now that the weather is warmer, this has been bothering me more — no more hats to hide under! Did you know dermatologists treat hair issues, too? To get to the root of the problem, I asked Dr. Gross how (short of extensions) to get supermodel hair…the answers may surprise you! the buzz: sephora times square

Even though the weather today has been nothing but gloomy, I was greeted with nothing but sunshine when I stopped by the Sephora at Times Square. The ever-effervescent Sal Zullo, NYC Product Specialist, spotted me and waved as he effortlessly juggled the attention of three clients. Times Square may always be busy, but there isn’t always a Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare™ event — and clients from around the world were getting in on the action.

“This may look like a lot, but I swear: you can do it in five minutes,” Sal explained as he arranged an assortment of the Alpha Beta® Peel, Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution, Ferulic + Retinol Anti-Aging Moisturizer, and the Clinical Concentrate Boosters in front of a client. “Do you feel a tingle?” he asked. “That means it’s working.” While he explained how acids exfoliate the skin, I checked out what the other beauty consultants were up to: Kasi showed me how to use the technology behind Pantone Color IQ (the perfect way to get matched to your shade of CC Cream SPF 18) and Xiomara explained to a Spanish-speaking client how Trifix™ Oil-Free Moisture clears pores to help prevent blackheads and blemishes.

The biggest draw? Complimentary steam facials! Account Coordinator Derenisse Infante set up Steamer Solutions at the front of the store, and the steam puffing away pulled in people from the street. Anyone who bought a steamer (or more than $100 of product) brought home a deluxe Ferulic + Retinol Brightening Solution or Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask.

product spotlight: NEW clinical concentrate boosters

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Clinical Concentrate Boosters
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Clinical Concentrate Boosters

Spring has (at long last!) sprung here in New York City — but true to fashion, these first few days of warm weather are being punctuated by rain, snow, and freezing wind. If you know how to dress for this weather, kudos, because I’m finding it particularly challenging…and figuring out my perfect skincare regimen is even more difficult!

Enter our brand new Clinical Concentrate Boosters!

Aren’t they darling? Well, they pack a serious punch. While these may look like ordinary serums, this little trio goes above and beyond the call of duty of your average skincare product. Every day, skin has different needs, and it’s hard to tailor your daily regimen to what you skin wants. Not only do targeted zones change (dry cheeks, oily T-zone), but the entire face will have different concerns depending on weather, hormones, stress and more.

Dr. Gross designed these water-free boosters — Hydration, Radiance, and Purifying — to take your favorite existing regimen to the next level. While they can be applied directly to specific zones of the face (check out the application chart!), the time-released technology can be mixed into your favorite skincare and makeup products to boost their benefits.

  • Radiance: helps transform dull skin into a younger-looking, glowing, luminous complexion (featuring Linoleic, Pyruvic, Tartaric, and Glycolic Acids, Retinol, and Quercetin)
  • Hydration: helps infuse and seal deep moisture for firmer, softer, smoother-looking skin (with Hyaluronic Chronospheres, Watermelon Extract, and Centella Asiatica)
  • Purifying: helps tone and control excess oil; tightens pores for increased clarity (including Willow Bark Extract, Witch Hazel, Lactic Acid)

The set contains over 100 active ingredients for beautifully balanced skin, every single day. They’re also the perfect size for traveling, so you can pop them in your carry-on to make sure your skin doesn’t freak out while you’re on Spring Break. (Don’t forget your Glow Pads!) You can buy them now on or at any of our retailers.

What are you going to mix with your Clinical Concentrate Boosters?

pucker up! how to get a naturally healthy pout

Healthy lips are representative of sensuality. Who could resist wanting the iconic Marilyn Monroe pout? And, after all, healthy lips make a great base for that classic red lipstick.

You already know to take proper care of your skin — but are you taking care of your lips? At their most vulnerable during the coldest months of the year, lips’ thin and transparent skin deserves extra attention. Think gentle exfoliating, moisture, vitamins…and don’t forget to check the ingredients! Avoid chemicals and seek out natural alternatives, as what you put on your skin or lips will be absorbed into your body.

As someone who grew up in an organic environment, I have first-hand knowledge of herbalism and natural remedies. That’s why my first stop is the kitchen; the shelves are your sources for nourishing and fresh ingredients for your DIY beauty recipes. Want to trade in flaking, dry lips for a soft, hydrated pout? The regimen is simple. Try my DIY recipes and the results might surprise you.

beauty sleep is REAL — why your skin needs rest, too

According to a recently published article from Business Insider, almost 40% of Americans get fewer than 7 hours of sleep per night (recommended is 7-9 hours) and an estimated 70 million Americans have a sleep disorder! The article included the potential dangers of not getting enough sleep, but left out the damage it could have on your skin. Don’t worry — the Skinformant has you covered! Read on for the top 3 reasons you need beauty sleep.

 1) Dark circles

Failure to get enough sleep puts our bodies under stress, which causes our brains to leach as much oxygen as it can from the blood. Oxygen-poor blood is dark in color, which is especially visible in the transparent skin under our eyes.

2) Breakouts

Stress-related acne can also come from no sleep — stress releases the hormone cortisol into your system, which can lead to blemishes.

3) Deeper fine lines and wrinkles

Finally, this same stress causes us to involuntarily contract our muscles — including those in our face (jaw clenching and brow furrowing included!), resulting in more pronounced wrinkles. Our body also generates free radicals when tired. These pesky molecules are one of the contributors to signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.

Not sleeping? It’s not hopeless! While we strongly recommend hitting snooze more often, try these three products to help the effects of exhaustion.

1) Lift and Lighten helps soothe and depuff the undereye area, and immediately improves the appearance of circles with pearl powder.

2) Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask can be worn overnight (without ruining your sheets!) so you can fight breakouts while you sleep.

3) The Alpha Beta® Peel promotes cellular turnover and exfoliates, transforming dull, tired-looking skin into a radiant, luminous complexion.

What’s your secret to looking like you got nine hours of beauty sleep?

look good, feel good!

At DGSkincare, we are all about feeling positive — and feeling beautiful certainly lifts our spirits. Beauty may not always be the solution to life’s bigger problems, but it does play a big role in the way we feel about ourselves. During the winter, some of us are affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), which can have a powerful impact on our day-to-day lives. We want you to feel great about yourself inside and out, so we’ve pulled together some tips to help you fight the winter blues:

  • Consider sporting a natural glow that is fast and easy to apply. Our cruelty-free, paraben-free, and streak-free Alpha Beta® Glow Pads for Face and Body have you covered! The best part about these little miracle towelettes? They are infused with Vitamin D, the sun vitamin. A sunless and safe winter glow = instant happiness.
  • During the winter months, our exposure to the sun is limited. The sun makes us happy, but it also provides us with natural light and essential Vitamin D. Treat your body kindly: take Vitamin D supplements daily.
  • Our Steamer Solutions device is one of our favorite at-home treatments during the winter months. It opens up the pores, keeping skin clear and hydrated. A constant flow of moisture is essential to transform dull, dry skin to fresh, dewy radiance. This investment in your skin will quickly become your favorite beauty purchase.
  • Don’t let cold weather stop you from socializing! When you’re feeling down, it’s important to keep close ties with your friends and family. Stay connected by throwing a casual dinner party — bonding over a healthy meal will help increase feel-good endorphins, boost your self-esteem, and release stress.
  • Practice meditation and/or yoga breathing exercises. When stressed, we forget how to breathe properly. Paying attention to your breath will help you relax. You don’t need to be an expert — for proper guidance, try visiting a beginner yoga class or use the Yogic Breath app at home.
  • Dr. Gross recommends taking extra care of your hair. If you have noticed extra flyaways or especially unruly hair, increased static energy may be to blame. Take care of your hair at its source — the scalp — with our Root Resilience products: Anti-Aging Scalp Serum, Strengthening Shampoo and Nourishing Scalp Conditioner.

What are your favorite ways to stay cheerful during a gloomy winter season?

the doctor is in — sephora, 86th and lexington

If you were one of hundreds stepping into Sephora this Wednesday, it was instantly clear that this was no ordinary shopping day. Though always busy, the beauty hub on 86th and Lexington was buzzing with a different kind of energy — DJ Vida was seamlessly mixing the hottest new tracks with classic favorites, Vita Coco representatives were handing out drinks, and every Sephora cast member was wearing an enormous button declaring, “The Doctor Is In!”

Today’s special guest? Renowned dermatologist, skin cancer researcher, and brand founder of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare, Dr. Dennis Gross. Fresh from a day at his practice, 900 5th Dermatology, he brought his clinical expertise (and his team of experts) to lucky Sephora clients. From 5pm to 7pm, Dr. Gross sat with dedicated fans and brand newcomers alike during complimentary, personalized consultations — which would cost upwards of $250 at his office — thoroughly inspecting their skin and appraising individual needs. His team of experts were on hand to offer Sephora “patients” a gift of a 3-pack of the bestselling Alpha Beta® Peels and a deluxe sample of the Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask, in addition to professional treatments. Clients were spotted seated near the popular Steamer Solutions, enjoying a relaxing facial, learning about the benefits of Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution firsthand, and testing the new Ferulic + Retinol Fibroblast Anti-Aging Moisturizer.

By the end of the night, all were a Dr. Gross convert, with many visitors swearing to follow up with Dr. Gross for further treatment at his practice. As one client left toting a huge bag of products, she exclaimed, “I can’t believe I spent my whole night here!..but I loved every minute of it.”

4 ways to use: active vitamin d serum-oil

As a DGSkincare staff member, I often receive so many products that I don’t know what to try first! (I know — cry me a river.) It takes about four weeks for most skincare products to see if it’s making a true difference in your skin, so I try to avoid excessive mixing and matching. But some of our formulas are truly benefit chameleons: if I don’t have room in my regimen for a serum, I can repurpose it as another skincare staple. Today’s powerhouse product is Active Vitamin D Serum-Oil. While I’ve already talked about Vitamin D’s benefits as an ingredient, you may be missing out on other ways to use the serum. Here are my favorite four off-label application tips:
