As a DGSkincare staff member, I often receive so many products that I don’t know what to try first! (I know — cry me a river.) It takes about four weeks for most skincare products to see if it’s making a true difference in your skin, so I try to avoid excessive mixing and matching. But some of our formulas are truly benefit chameleons: if I don’t have room in my regimen for a serum, I can repurpose it as another skincare staple. Today’s powerhouse product is Active Vitamin D Serum-Oil. While I’ve already talked about Vitamin D’s benefits as an ingredient, you may be missing out on other ways to use the serum. Here are my favorite four off-label application tips:
When the holidays roll around, you can’t help but feel the spirit of giving – which is why over the past several years, the social media team has collaborated with some of our best brand buddies for a fabulous beauty, health, and style Tweetaway! We’re starting our givewaway this morning with T3’s Source Showerhead Filter, and we have many other great gifts this year (for yourself or for a friend), including TWO Clarisonics, a boatload of Tarte, Mally, and LORAC, and a completely covetable Milly bag.
Getting fresh-faced with our products isn’t hard, but pretty much everyone knows that the easiest way to a clear, radiant complexion is exfoliation. Do you know why? And are you doing it right?
Happy First Day of Summer, readers! Isn’t it funny how a small change to your daily routine can be a major improvement? I’ve been feeling a little oily lately, which is odd for me — and then I realized that I hadn’t yet switched out my daily moisturizer to an oil-free formula!
Why is this important? Which one is my favorite? Read on!
Hey readers! Father’s Day is coming up this Sunday, June 16th — have you bought that special man in your life a gift yet? I personally have always had trouble picking a gift for my dad. He’s hard to shop for, and I’m always trying to find something that he’ll both like and actually use.
If you’re in the same boat, or just looking for something different than what you usually give your dad (ties? Tools? Grill-related equipment? Been there, done all of that), then consider skincare! I put together a special duo for dads, “Dad’s Essentials,” that consists of the father-friendly products Botanical Cleansing Bar and Age Erase Moisture for Face.
Botanical Cleansing Bar is great for everyone, but I’ve found that men like it because it’s a great multitasker: you can wash your face and body with it (my dad washes his hair with it, too!) as it’s hydrating and exfoliating. As for Age Erase Moisture for Face, it’s one of my favorite products from DGSkincare – I put it on before bed and it leaves my skin super soft.
If you haven’t visited DGSkincare’s Facebook page recently, you might not know that we’re counting down to something MAJOR this Monday, June 17th. We’ve all been gearing up big time for this, and I know you’re going to love it. Check back here or on dgskincare.com on Monday to find out what it is!
How do you celebrate Father’s Day?
If you’re passionate about skincare and sun protection, I hope you haven’t missed the scientific study that both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal wrote up this week.
Believe it or not, there hadn’t been “hard evidence” to support that sunscreen prevents photoaging before this study was published. The study, conducted over 4.5 years, consisted of 900 white Australians between 25 and 55 years of age. All were provided with an SPF 15+ to apply — half were asked to use it as they normally would, while the other half were assigned to daily use.
According to the Annals of Internal Medicine, those who applied sunscreen daily showed 24% less skin aging than those who used sunscreen inconsistently. Their skin was smoother with fewer wrinkles and more elastic (less sagging).
What do you think about this? I’m personally not at all surprised – Dr. Gross, along with most dermatologists, highly touts the benefits of using sunscreen regularly. (After all, he does have background as a skin cancer researcher!) I’ll admit, it can be hard to remember to apply sunscreen daily – at least for me – even though any sun exposure at all can cause skin damage.
I’m going to Florida this weekend, and while Tropical Storm Andrea may be crashing my vacation, I’ll be sure to load up on Powerful Sun Protection SPF 45. Psst! In a few weeks, we’ll be launching a new sunscreen — a physical sunscreen that’s a mineral mist — and it’s super easy to apply. I’m very excited about it, and I’ll keep you posted on more info!
What are your biggest concerns when it comes to sun exposure? Why? And what are your weekend plans?
One of my favorite things about my job is that I get to see a product from start to finish. When I heard that Dr. Gross was developing a line of haircare products, I was kind of surprised. What does skincare have to do with good-looking hair?
Turns out, everything. Find out more and pre-order!
Did you tune into QVC last Friday night (May 3rd)? If not, you missed an awesome show. We introduced our Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask to the QVC family — and they must have loved it, because we SOLD OUT!
Popular with high schoolers and grandmothers alike, this is another one of our wonder products, so it’s no wonder that SELF Magazine awarded it this year’s Healthy Beauty Award for Best Mask. Whether you’re using it on enlarged pores, excessively oily skin, or as an all-over pimple prevention treatment, it gets the job done! Read on to learn more about how it works, why you need it, and to see a before and after shot!
We’re pretty transparent about what ingredients we use here at Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare™, but just because I know what’s in our products doesn’t mean I know what they all do! I figured that I’m not alone on this — I tend to focus on immediate results of a product than think about the science behind how it works. Because of this, I decided to start this feature on the blog – Ingredient Corner! If you have a particular ingredient you’d like to know more about, comment and I’ll see what I can do. So without further ado…Licorice!
